I’m a police officer with 17 years on the job. In three years I will be eligible for retirement. I will be in my mid 40’s.
Two years ago I started seriously thinking about life after policing. Can I survive on my pension? Do I start a second career? Should I relocate to another state, or even another country. Maybe I’ll just stay on the job until I’m 55.
There are a lot of blogs about early retirement and financial planning, some with really good information. However, not many are geared toward emergency service workers who are often eligible for retirement after 20-25 years of service.
With this blog I will candidly discuss my transition from being a police officer to a retired cop. Everything from finances to adjusting to life after the shield.
